The Morning Yoga Session

Each morning you will wake up to an 8am practice in the spacious oak floored yoga hall. Moving from the stillness of meditation we will gently mobilise our bodies through a deep connection to the mindful breath.

Practice will be energising, soulful and uplifting; utilising both structured posture sequences and more intuitive, creative movement, breath and soundwork, you can expect to start your day feeling energised and connected!

Heading towards summer solstice, with its long hours of daylight is the perfect time of year to catch the spectacular sunsets over the sea and Hebridean islands, and connect with the restful beauty of Scotland’s rugged coastline…

The practices are designed to move you from your everyday thinking mind into a more creative and receptive flow state. When the internal chatter quietens there is a spaciousness from which your creativity naturally flows.

You may like to bring watercolours, a camera, your favourite pen and journal, or just take time to collect pebbles on the beach or watch the waves.

Time to Explore

There are many wonderful and scenic walks direct from Kilcreggan House, overlooking the bay with stunning glimpses of the Isles of Arran and Bute. You can take a shoreline stroll or surround yourself with nature in the woodland just above the house.

For the more adventurous, there are craggy hiking trails and mountain biking tracks that weave up from the nearby village to a spectacular birds eye view of the serene lochs and mountains nearby. And If they call to you, there is always the option of a serious days walking or cycling.

Or then again…as the urge to do starts to fall away, as we connect to the tranquility of Place, you may just surprise yourself and be happy to simply immerse yourself  in the stillness of the moment.

The Afternoon Yoga Session

In the late afternoon, drawing on thirty years of experience as a yoga practitioner, Jackie will guide you to gently peel away the layers of tension and resistance to rediscover a fluidity in your body and a connection to your calm centre.

The afternoon yoga session will go beyond the boundaries of a normal class to experience the deeper aspects of yoga. Using her background in science, psychology and her study in the Himalayan yoga tradition, Jackie will encourage you to practice at your intelligent edge, and explore the edges between thinking and flowing, pushing and yielding, doing and being.

Nourishment

The retreat includes full board, with three delicious vegetarian or vegan meals per day, hand prepared by the wonderful cook at kilcreggan House, using locally sourced fresh produce.

The Venue

Built by wealthy Glasgow merchants, the 17 room Kilcreggan house became a Christian retreat for many years and was known as a place where you could reconnect in a deeper way to both the landscape and to yourself.

Our hosts Ali and Lawrence have breathed new life into this grand old 17 room mansion, renewing it with sumptuous renovations and attention to detail, informed by Ali’s creative flair as a set designer.

Ali, our host, is a talented natural voice teacher, who I met recently on a singing retreat. She is warm, generous and very twinkly and we immediately hit it off! She loves to get people singing and has offered the opportunity (optional!) to lead us in harmonies around the campfire on the beach in the evening.

Getting There

By train

Trains from Shrewsbury to Glasgow are quick and direct, so you can be there in just 4.5 hours.

Kilcreggan is just an hour west by train from Glasgow. Then hop on a little ferry that will take you the 15 mins across the bay with spectacular views of the peninsula and islands.

This last part of the journey really feels like leaving the busyness of your daily life behind, to step ashore into this wild and beautiful part of Scotland, and so return to yourself.

Travelling together

We will try to coordinate trains so that solo travellers can travel together. Train travel is booked and paid for by you.

Arrive after 4pm on Thurs. Our first yoga session is 5.30pm, with the evening meal served at 7pm. If you are going to be late, please let us know so that we can accommodate you.

The final day
